Mathematics Part III
The 125 hour Additional Qualification course Mathematics, Primary and Junior, Specialist, supports the expectations outlined in the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum policy documents, programs, and other Ministry of Education policies. The underlying purpose of this course is to extend the knowledge and skills from Parts I and II, with a focus on leadership skills in mathematics in primary and junior education. This course provides candidates with the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the vision and underlying philosophies related to mathematics in primary and junior education. The course will provide candidates with skills and strategies for building teacher capacity at the school and system level, as well as supporting understanding of effective mathematics teaching and learning in the wider community. The course integrates the theories of mathematics learning with educational change theory and leadership philosophies. Reflective inquiry will be used as a vehicle through which candidates inquire into, discover, and communicate findings about leading communities of learners through improvements in mathematics teaching and learning.
