History of Science and Technology to 1700

This course examines the rise of science and technology in western cultures from antiquity through the Scientific Revolution. Particular attention is given to how scientific and technological development relate to changes in ideas, philosophies, society, and economy. Students learn how historians assess both the practical and intellectual context of these shifts for pre-industrial cultures. PREREQ: 18 university credits. (Lec 3) cr 3.
