Totalitarianism in 20th Century Europe: Mussolini, Hitler, and Stalin

This course explores the lives and works of the twentieth-century dictators Benito Mussolini, Adolf Hitler, and Joseph Stalin. It provides a detailed historical analysis of the political and ideological forces that contributed to the origins, development, and demise of their European totalitarian regimes. Topics include the role of biography in historiography, the institutional dynamics of centralized power, and the cult of personality. Students cannot retain credits for both HIST 4765 and HIST 4766.
