Topics include a consideration of scientific instruments for measurement of physical properties, including mechanical, electrical, optical, and thermal examples; sensitivity, error and cost of both transducers and associated equipment; the problems of noise in measurements; and the use of phase-sensitive detection and lock-in amplification.
