Substance Use and Addictions
An introduction to the field of addictions. Topics include the licit and illicit use of alcohol and drugs, their regulation in Canada and theories of addiction and addiction treatment. Different treatment approaches are examined including mutual aid/self-help, behavioural change, harm reduction, group methods and gender-based programs. Students have an opportunity to assess both self-help and professional addiction treatment methods. Restricted to 3rd- and 4th-year students of Social Work. (lec 3) cr 3 Lecture (3.00)
