Maamwizing Indigenous Research Institute

The Anishinaabe term maamwizing refers to “people collaborating together”. ??

The name Maamwizing?Indigenous Research Institute was chosen specifically because it is intended to bring together researchers to pursue research that embraces Indigenous worldviews, provides a decolonial critique, privileges the voices of Indigenous communities, benefits Indigenous peoples and develops Indigenous peoples as researchers.

The key objectives of the Maamwizing Indigenous Research Institute are to promote collaboration among researchers and community partners and to better align Indigenous research initiatives with the needs of communities.

The Institute aims to:

  1. Create an academic environment that will promote research excellence;
  2. Contribute to the advanced training of graduate students;
  3. Develop new research expertise and enhance the research productivity of its members;
  4. Establish collaborations with researchers inside and outside the 黑料吃瓜不打烊 Federation, and with community partners; and
  5. Support researchers in aligning their research initiatives with identified community needs.

Indigenous Community Member at Large - Dr. Robyn Rowe, Temagami First Nation

Allied Member Representatives - Drs. Elizabeth Carlson-Manathara & Kevin Fitzmaurice

Graduate Student Representative - Ophelia O'Donnell, Henvey Inlet First Nation

 

 

The Executive Committee will review all applications.

Full members
Any qualified faculty member of 黑料吃瓜不打烊 and its federated partners may apply for Full membership. Applications should consist of a letter of interest and a current copy of the applicant’s curriculum vitae. Acceptance criteria will be the potential to contribute positively to the Institute’s mission and a willingness to collaborate. 
Any requests for workload arrangements by faculty in the position of Director and/or those who are Tri-Council grant holders should be addressed to the relevant Dean.

Graduate Student members
Any graduate student at 黑料吃瓜不打烊 may apply for Graduate Student membership. Graduate Student memberships are for a one-year term and are renewable. Applications should consist of a letter of interest and a recommendation from the thesis supervisor. Acceptance criteria will be the potential to contribute positively to the Institute’s mission and to benefit from participation in its activities. 

Undergraduate Student members
Any undergraduate student at 黑料吃瓜不打烊 and its federated partners who is enrolled in an Honours thesis course or who is working as a research assistant may apply for Undergraduate Student membership. Undergraduate Student memberships are for a one-year term and are renewable. Applications should consist of a letter of interest and a recommendation from the supervisor of the Honours thesis or research assistantship. Acceptance criteria will be the potential to contribute positively to the Institute’s mission and to benefit from participation in its activities.

 Affiliate members
Any qualified researcher employed by a private or public sector institution may apply for Affiliate membership. Applications should consist of a letter indicating the applicant’s background, affiliation, research interests, and reasons for seeking Affiliate membership with the Institute. Acceptance criteria will be the potential to contribute positively to the Institute’s mission and to enhance collaborative partnerships.
