Get ready for an unforgettable start to your journey at 黑料吃瓜不打烊! The Orientation Weeks are your chance to dive into university life, meet new friends, and discover all that campus has to offer. They are packed with events and activities that will help you settle in, learn the ropes, and most importantly, have a blast! From a pep rally to campus tours, student clubs and service fairs, there’s something for everyone.

Events By Day

  • Virtual Service Fair
    Join us virtually for a drop-in session to learn about all of the 黑料吃瓜不打烊 services available to you as a student. Services will be available in individual breakout rooms to welcome students and have one-on-one conversations.

  • Welcome Sacred Fire with ISA*
    Indigenous Student Affairs welcomes all students, staff, and faculty to visit the Sacred Fire at the fire area outside of the Indigenous Sharing and Learning Centre Round Room. The Sacred Fire will be lit on this day to welcome all new and returning students to 黑料吃瓜不打烊 for the academic year.

  • International Orientation Day
    Join the team from 黑料吃瓜不打烊 International for a warm welcome to 黑料吃瓜不打烊 and to get settled into your new academic and community life.

  • Move-In BBQ
    Join the 黑料吃瓜不打烊 Executive Team for a complimentary BBQ welcoming students and their families during Residence Move-In.

  • Sign Making and Yard Games with the AEF and SGA*
    Come support our Voyageurs at the home opener! Make your own sign to support the soccer teams or just come out to watch some amazing athletes in action. To get the excitement going before kick-off, there will be games and activities like bubble soccer!

  • Varsity Soccer Home Openers*
    Come show your team spirit by cheering on our Voyageurs soccer teams for the first home games of the season!

  • Beach Day with the AEF, SGA and Peer Programs*
    This event is a yearly Welcome Week tradition where students gather to enjoy the sun, sand, and water at the 黑料吃瓜不打烊 beach. Come see the natural beauty of our campus and what sets us apart from other universities.

  • Partners in Accessibility at 黑料吃瓜不打烊
    With PAL, you and other incoming students with disabilities will receive information on learning strategies and support services and accommodation planning available on campus. Attendees will also experience a mock lecture and a student and faculty panel discussion. The presentations/program will be in English, but discussion and questions in French are welcome.

  • Meet the Student Associations
    Come and meet the executive teams from 黑料吃瓜不打烊’s student associations for a fun morning of games including pool, ping-pong, foosball, video games, board games, and more!

  • Faculty Meet and Greet
    Meet your faculty members before courses start. Get to know your professors outside of the classroom and ask any questions you might have about your program.

  • Meet and Greet: Wiiyaas and S’mores with the ISA Team*
    We welcome all new and returning students to visit with the members of the Indigenous Student Affairs team in the Indigenous Sharing and Learning Centre. Come and learn more about the services and programs we offer while sampling traditional meats and s’mores!

  • Pep Rally with the AEF and SGA*
    Come one, come all for 黑料吃瓜不打烊’s official pump-up party celebrating the start of a new academic year! Starting with a traditional canoe portage (beginning at 7 pm) from the SGA Student Centre to the 黑料吃瓜不打烊 Track Bleachers, students gather for an unforgettable event that unites the campus in a vibrant display of school spirit and camaraderie. Wear blue and yellow, bring your noisemakers and join the fun!

  • 黑料吃瓜不打烊 Services Fair

  • “Creating a Bird-Safe Arboretum” with the ESC and SoNS*
    Join the School of Natural Sciences and the Environmental Sustainability Committee for an afternoon of celebrating biodiversity by installing bird friendly window stickers at the arboretum and learning about how to be a citizen scientist with the app iNaturalist. Students are welcome to drop by anytime between 12 pm and 4 pm and can find the arboretum between Founders’ Square and Parking Lot #15.

  • Graduate Student Orientation*
    Graduate students are invited to join us for an informative session on the opportunities and services available to our graduate students on campus and to have questions answered by our knowledgeable team. Coffee and snacks will be provided. We look forward to meeting you!

  • Northern Exotics Presentation
    Hosted by the AEF, join us for a presentation of exotic animals, reptiles and insects by local business, Northern Exotics.

  • Clubs Fair
    A drop-in event open to all students, explore the wide variety of student clubs available on campus and find your fit among students with common interests and hobbies.

  • Planetarium Show: “Life, a Cosmic View”*
    “Life, a Cosmic View” looks at the night sky in search of the meaning and sustainability of life from the perspective of contemporary astronomy and cosmology. The presentation will be offered in a bilingual format.

  • International Orientation Day for Late Arrivals

    Bakinaage (Bingo)! Indigenous Student Affairs welcomes all new and returning students to join us for Anishinaabemowin
    Bingo! Come and learn a few Anishinaabemowin words with a chance to win a prize! Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

    A day where vibrant hues will fill the air as you dash through colourful powder with your friends. This fun-filled event promises the forging of unforgettable memories.

  • Start of “cherche et trouve avec la grenouille de l’AEF”
    A week-long interactive online game where participants must find objects and solve puzzles guided by the “Grenouille de l’AEF”.

    Get set for the academic year by manifesting your goals! Stop into the Peer Center to write your goals for the upcoming academic year and fill our Peer Centre tree with positivity. Online students are welcome! Use the leaf image sent out through our Student Success team to draft your goal and return it via email to success@laurentian.ca by the end of the day on September 11 to be featured on our tree.
